Here at Clos-ette, we're often heard preaching the importance of wardrobe basics –those key pieces around which the rest of your closet revolves. And who better to recommend the most stylish essentials than Net-a-Porter.com's Holli Rogers? As Buying Director of our all-time-favorite shopping site (oh, the hours –and dollars –we've blown scrolling through its fabulous wares), the infinitely chic Rogers knows a thing or two about smart shopping.

According to her, "the ultimate wardrobe requires the building blocks of style: beautiful basics." Here, she shares with Clos-ette the top eight styles that every closet should include.

The White Shirt: "Perfect with everything from skinny jeans to embellished designer skirts. Every wardrobe should be stocked with at least a few fabrications, from crisp cotton to fluid silk. Try one from Jil Sander, Ralph Lauren or Rag + Bone."

Ralph Lauren Black Label Rachel slim-fit cotton-blend shirt, $300

Clos-ette Tip: Hang shirts on our Signature Shirt Hangers, which feature a super-skinny silhouette, and flocking to prevent slippage.

Body-Skimming Knits: "Lightweight knits are my secret weapon for body-conscious dressing while staying warm and cozy. Belted fine-gauge cashmere cardigans from Miu Miu, 3.1 Phillip Lim or Crumpet are the perfect trans-seasonal staple."

Miu Miu cashmere and silk-blend cardigan, $460

Clos-ette Tip: To maintain their shape, lightweight knits should always be folded, and NEVER hung.

Jeans: "Now available in a broad variety of silhouettes from designers such as MiH, J Brand or Current/Elliott, denim is a fashion essential. Cropped, skinny or flared, never have women had more choices to suit their personal style."

MiH Marrakesh mid-rise flared jeans, $185

Clos-ette Tip: To save space, hang up to four pairs of jeans on our Signature Pant/Skirt Hanger, which features rounded bars for crease-free hanging

The Leather Jacket: "This coolest of cover-ups can be worn with everything from tailored pants to a floor-sweeping ball gown. A leather jacket is by nature irreverent and rebellious, so why not have fun with it? Some of my favorite styles come from Rick Owens, Isabel Marant and Lot78."

Rick Owens Blister washed-leather biker jacket, $2,465

Clos-ette Tip: Hang leather jackets on our Signature Coat Hangers, and be sure to leave approximately two inches on either side to allow air circulation and to prevent crushing.

The Classic Bag: "While “it” bags come in and out of fashion, a “classic” will never go out of style. Proenza Schouler, Chloe and Mulberry are the new essentials when it comes to arm candy."

Chloe Paraty Medium leather bag, $1,895

Clos-ette Tip: The best way to store handbags is to hang them by S-shaped hooks on a rod in your closet, or lining them up on a shelf. Stuff with acid-free tissue to maintain each bag's shape.

The Flat: "It was Brigitte Bardot who first took to the streets in ballet flats, and ever since they have been the fashion staple of the chic set.  Channel Jackie O. in her capri jeans and black turtleneck and pair the look with an endlessly chic set of Lanvin, Chloe or Repetto flats."

Lanvin two-tone leather ballerina flats, $570

Clos-ette Tip: The best way to care for leather shoes is to treat them with mink oil, which helps the leather maintain its moisture and prevents unsightly drying or cracking.

The Blazer:  "Long ago the blazer was “borrowed from the boys,” but has since become a sartorial must of every designer wardrobe. Soft-shouldered or sharp, be it Stella McCartney, Theyskens' Theory or By Malene Birger, the blazer is guaranteed to spruce up your look."

 Stella McCartney twill blazer, $1,725

Clos-ette Tip: Use our Signature Coat Hangers, which prevent slippage and maintain shoulder shape without taking up too much space.

The Trench: "No wardrobe is complete without one. From Burberry to Reed Krakoff, this perennial staple for women around the world is a suitable cover up both day and night, over jeans or a flirty dress."

Burberry twill trench coat, $995

Clos-ette Tip: Use our Signature Coat Hangers, which prevent slippage and maintain shoulder shape without taking up too much space.
