clos-ette case: Gigi Stone

Posted on September 27, 2012 by Melanie Charlton

If only all TV correspondents had Gigi Stone's eye for fashion, catching the news would be a lot more fun. The adorable Bloomberg TV star knows exactly what she likes: bright, ladylike frocks for on-air assignments; drop-dead gowns (hello, L’Wren Scott and Roland Mouret) for evenings out; and classic, cozy cable-knits for weekends with her husband and newborn son. “My style is feminine and structured,” the native New Yorker tells us. And her perfectly orderly closets? Let’s just say she does us proud. Here, Stone gives us a peek inside.

How would you describe your personal style?

Sterling Cooper secretary from Mad Men. My standard uniform involves snug-fitting, tight-waisted dresses to the knee and a kitten heel pump. Bright colored jewel tones look best on TV, so I have a much more colorful closet than you’d probably typically find in Manhattan.

Who are your go-to designers?

Roland Mouret and Dolce & Gabbana are my favorites. They really know how to flatter the female form. Nanette Lepore does a great job at capturing my inner girly-girl. Weekends are a whole other story –they’re all about Hudson jeans and Ralph Lauren cashmere cable knits.

Most ‘worth it’ splurge?

Valentino or J. Mendel black-tie gowns. They make you feel like Rita Hayworth in “Gilda.”

What’s at the top of your fall shopping wish-list?

A Rick Owens shearling-lined leather jacket.

What’s the most cherished item in your closet?

I’ll never get rid of my flak jacket. It’s basically just a khaki vest with lots of pockets, but it’s what I wore reporting on so many floods and hurricanes for ABC News so it’s laden with meaningful memories.

What’s the most frequently worn item in your closet?

My gold Jimmy Choo open-toed pumps. They’re so comfortable and add ‘coquette’ to any outfit.

What’s the most embarrassing item in your closet?

My Vibram five-finger shoes. They make you look like a webbed-foot duck, but they feel great to exercise in or wear for long walks because they simulate being barefoot.

Whose closet would you like to raid?

Victoria Beckham’s. She always looks streamlined and sophisticated but... sassy. [That’s] my ideal look: posh, but spicy.
