clos-ette case: Lisa Salzer of Lulu Frost

Posted on February 20, 2013 by Linley Taber

Here's what we love about Lulu Frost designer Lisa Salzer: the girl knows how to blend the modern and the vintage into one dazzlingly distinct style. Her jewelry feels at once old and new, fierce and sweet. In fact, this ‘perfect blend’ approach is evident in everything she touches –from her everyday wardrobe, to the sun-filled studio where where she stores and displays her creations in style. (We're talking antique cabinets, velvet-lined drawers, and a genius jewelry board made from old hardware.) Here, Salzer gives us a tour of her gorgeously organized space and shares the secret of her style.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is eclectic with a ladylike touch.

What’s your daily uniform?

I often wear a short, flared skirt by designers like Opening Ceremony or Phillip Lim paired with a button-down shirt from Madewell or J.Crew, topped with a blazer or bomber jacket. The jackets range from vintage one-of-a-kinds to Rag & Bone to Whistles of London.

How is the aesthetic of your jewelry line reflected in your wardrobe?

The Lulu Frost aesthetic of old-meets-new can also be found in my wardrobe. I love to mash up classic pieces like a Lanvin dress with a vintage box clutch and pair an old Pendleton with killer heels. It’s all about the mix for me.

What’s the most treasured item in your closet?

I love my Lanvin long, tulle, army-green Grecian gown. Every time I wear it out I feel like I’m floating.

What would your dream closet look like?

It wouldn't be a closet – it would be a large room with a table in the middle and several settees scattered about. I’m thinking SJP’s closet in the "Sex & the City" movie, not the TV show.

How do you store your jewelry at home?

I have several cool old filing cabinets from an industrial tool factory, as well as an antique mail sorter which is great for displaying and storing jewelry. I love to be able to see what I have, so the open cubbies of the mail sorter are perfect.

Other than your jewelry, what are your must-have accessories?

I love my vintage handbags and clutches. I wear longer chain-strapped ones for day and hold on to the delicate clutches for evenings out.

Whose closet would you love to raid?

I love Taylor Tomasi Hill’s wardrobe. She mixes it up like no other and always looks polished.
