clos-ette case: One Kings Lane's Alison Pincus

Posted on July 27, 2011 by melanie fascitelli

If it’s 11 am EST, you know where to find us: invariably, we’re ogling the gorgeous home goods that have just gone on sale on One Kings Lane. The genius site –which offers an expertly-curated mix of decor and furnishings at up to 70% off –is the perfect place to pick up a little something you didn’t know you needed (we’re talking to you, vintage brass table lamp). This week, we’re thrilled that One Kings Lane is featuring our exclusive closet-editing services, hangers and jewelry case –and that the site’s super-chic co-founder, Alison Pincus, took a moment to chat with us about her own closet. As the company’s Chief Strategy Officer, the San Francisco-based design enthusiast oversees all business development for the ever-growing site –and, judging by her keen fashion sense, looks darn good doing it.

What’s your daily uniform?
I love jeans!  Colored jeans, skinny jeans, and even skinny boyfriend jeans. My favorite brands these days are J.Brand, Mother, The Row and Citizens of Humanity.

What designers can't you live without?
Maison Martin Margiela, Balenciaga and Vince.  Margiela and Balenciaga’s dresses work really well for petite women.  And, I can’t live without Vince’s t-shirts and sweaters.

What’s your biggest closet “problem?”
Definitely not enough space!

What would your dream closet look like?
Plenty of hanging space, spacious shelves for my baskets, enclosed spaces for my luggage, tilted shelves for my shoes, and a comfortable place to sit. The closet would have natural light, a gorgeous chandelier, and a great hamper.  I'm envisioning a glossy ceiling and a bright-colored grass cloth on the walls –perhaps a pink color. [No dream closet is complete without our Signature Hangers – available in pink and five other chic shades!]

What wardrobe items will you keep forever?
I seem to keep my jackets forever.  I live in San Francisco and it’s chilly year-round.  Like the Jack London saying goes, “Coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”

What would we never find in your closet?
Fur.

Whose closet would you love to raid if you could?
My mother’s!  I do raid her closet –unfortunately she’s a size 7 in shoes
and I’m 6.5.  And, she’s four inches taller, so her gorgeous sweaters and jackets never fit quite right.  However, her bags always work well. [Use our Acrylic Shelf Dividers to expertly store your bags (or Mom's!) on your closet shelves.]
