Our bestselling Travel Jewelry Case is the ultimate way to store your baubles at home and on the road. But what should you be stocking it with these days? We turned to Ali Galgano, founder of the online jewelry mecca Charm & Chain, for some seriously stylish suggestions. “Jewelry can take your outfit to the next level and give you multiple options while traveling,” says the New York-based accessories fiend. Here, she offers up some of her favorite trends for late summer and fall.
Druzy Quartz:
“Right now, our customers are clamoring for natural stones, especially when they’re in a delicate setting. Drusy quartz is particularly sparkly, and has a vibe that’s both bohemian and elegant. I prefer a pair of drusy studs over pearl or diamond studs for everyday wear—they’re far more interesting and work exceptionally well for both office and evening. Dara Ettinger has a great selection of drusy pieces.”
Neons:
“Bright, neon hues –big on the spring runway –will definitely trend through the cold weather season in jewelry, offering a fun pop of color in more neutral autumnal outfits. I love neon with an all-white outfit for summer. Erickson Beamon makes the most fashion-forward neon jewelry—their hand-painted stones and incredible craftsmanship produce pieces that really pop. We’re also carrying Shourouk, a new line for us, starting this fall, and the pieces look like jewelry on LSD!”
“I absolutely love a collection of mismatched bracelets and bangles, purposely stacked together –they go perfectly with a stylish blazer-jeans-heels ensemble. Frieda & Nellie makes friendship bracelets that have been elegantly updated with vintage finds and colorful embellishments. I usually wear a few Frieda & Nellie bracelets and combine them with my grandmother’s etched gold cuffs, some Kenneth Jay Lane animal bangles, a Kara Ross cuff, and a House of Harlow bracelet. Mixing jewelry of different metals, fabrics, sizes, shapes, and colors may seem counter-intuitive, but this type of creative play has led to some of my favorite layering looks.”
Simple and Sleek:
“While some designers went over the top this season with embellishments, others embraced a minimalist aesthetic and based their collections around sleek pieces such as slip-on collar necklaces and cuffs. I loved FALLON and Citrine by the Stones’ structured basics in gold and silver, which can really be worn with anything from a printed maxi dress to a pantsuit.”
Trompe L’Oeil Jewelry:
“Designers are adding a touch of whimsy to their pieces and creating jewelry that could pass for things like shirt cuffs, collars, ties, and lace patterns. I love the idea of wearing matching “shirt” cuffs on each wrist—my own version of dressing for the office! Alexis Bittar and Isaac Mizrahi have created fantastic versions of pieces like this for summer and fall.”
