With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there’s one thing we know for sure: a spritz of a sultry, sexy super-chic scent is the best way to set the mood. Our pick? Any of the gorgeous fragrances from our friend Kilian Hennessy’s By Kilian brand. As the grandson of the founder of the LVMH Group, luxury is practically in the genes of the French-born Hennessy –and his collection of 13 complex scents doesn’t disappoint. In fact, we so adore his essential oil-packed blends that “Beyond Love, prohibited” (starring gorgeous Indian tuberose) and “Love and Tears, surrender” (an addictive blend of jasmine, orange blossom, and ylang ylang) have become our signature scents. Here, our perfumer of choice opens up the doors of his Paris closet, and talks classic pieces, Cartier watches, and more.
How would you describe your personal style?
Classic yet modern.
If you could only wear one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be?
Tom Ford, because I think he understands good tailoring and beautiful fabrics, and his basic pieces are timeless. [Keep menswear in tip-top shape with our Signature Suit Hangers].
What’s the most cherished item in your wardrobe?
A Cartier Tank Solo gold watch given to me by my grandfather.
What’s the biggest ‘skeleton’ in your closet?
An Hermes lime green coat that my partner Elisabeth laughs at every time she sees it! I think I am keeping it now just to make her laugh!
What’s on your shopping wish list?
A vintage Cartier watch I recently found on 1stDibs.com. Good thing my birthday is coming! [Store cherished pieces in our bestselling Jewelry Case].
What item do you never leave the house without?
My fragrance of course! By day it’s “Taste of Heaven, absinthe verte” and by night it’s “Back to Black, aphrodisiac.”
The romanticism of 19th century poetry mixed with modern-day references and a little bit of naughtiness!
Whose closet would you like to raid?
Cary Grant and his wardrobe in An Affair to Remember. He was the epitome of chic!
