clos-ette case: Stacey Bendet

Posted on January 22, 2013 by melanie Charlton Fascitelli

In the depths of winter, it’s easy to forget that fashion should be fun. Fret not: one glance at Stacey Bendet’s exuberant, vintage-packed closet is like a sartorial shot in the arm. The Alice & Olivia designer collects everything from tribal prints and multi-colored furs to snazzy sequins –all of which inform the slightly-retro aesthetic of her popular ready-to-wear line. Here, she gives us a peek inside her personal treasure trove.

How would you describe your personal style?

RANDOM. It depends on my mood and the day!

What’s the most frequently worn piece in your closet?

[Alice & Olivia wide-legged] “Eric” pants!

What would we never find in your closet?

Flat shoes. Even my sneakers have a little platform.

What’s the most cherished item in your closet?

My mother’s wedding dress!

Other than your own label, who are your go-to designers?

I am more of a random vintage connoisseur than a label-lover.

What’s at the top of your shopping wish-list right now?

A painting by Francesca DiMattio. Although, if pertaining to my closet, I am really loving vintage kimonos right now!

What’s your ideal shopping day?

I like to shop by myself in flea markets, vintage stores, etc. I also love shopping in Asia and in random malls in the middle of the night!

Whose closet would you love to raid?

Amy Fine Collins’! She has the most insane Geoffrey Beene collection and the most incredible taste!
