clos-ette case: Carlota Espinosa

Posted on June 20, 2013 by Linley Taber

Carlota Espinosa has quite the resume: the Los Angeles resident won three Emmys for her work producing news, entertainment and fashion shows for Fox Television before going on to co-found uber sale site Hautelook back in 2007. But instead of resting on her laurels –and lounging about her divine Hollywood Hills bungalow –the entrepreneur has launched the new shopping platform, Styloot. The site’s ingenious “Create Your Look” tool lets shoppers instantly search the web for the exact pieces they have in mind. (You want a white, sleeveless, v-neck, knee-length fitted dress? You got it.) Espinosa has also introduced an app that scans pics that users have snapped of stylish outfits they’ve encountered and provides them with a list of similar shoppable styles.

After chatting with Espinosa, and ogling the wares in her own enviable wardrobe, we've got a good idea what we'll be shopping for next...

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic.

What’s the most cherished item in your closet?

My mother's short fur coat. She loved to wear it with her pearls and long leather white gloves. She is the most stylish woman I know.

Do you have any ‘skeletons’ in your closet?

No, I love everything. One of my favorite things to do is shop my closet. I recently discovered a vintage Valentino bag at the back of closet that a dear friend gave me over 10 years ago. It was like Christmas!

You can never have too many…

Nautical, lace and leopard pieces.

Any new acquisitions you’re particularly loving?

I recently purchased an Isabel Marant jumpsuit that I would wear every day I could.

How do you keeping your closet under control?

I am a pat-rack all the way. My limited closet space does however force me to keep my winter coats downstairs in my den closet. My shoes –that is another story. I am still trying to figure how to manage them.

What are you craving for your closet this summer?

I am craving Natalie Martin tops, an Alvin Valley tuxedo suit, a dress from Gregory Parkinson and a sneak peek of the Victor Alfaro collection.

Whose closet would you like to raid?

I would have loved to go inside Grace Kelly's closet – she had the most divine taste. My friends are pretty stylish so I would happily raid their closets too.
