clos-ette case: Eponymous' Claudia Overstrom & Betsy Pitts

Posted on June 03, 2013 by Linley Taber

When we first heard about Eponymous, the new handbag line launched by our friends Claudia Overstrom and Betsy Pitts, we thought something we’ve never thought before: that we might never need another bag again. That’s because the two stylish New Yorkers have designed our two essential accessories –the perfect day bag, and perfect evening clutch –and dreamed up a series of gorgeous, interchangeable panels that wrap around the base of each bag. The panels are to die for –black Italian leather, turquoise python, and chic, summery linen are but a few of the choices –and it couldn’t be easier to attach them to the base bag. The duo’s concept is so genius and beautifully executed that we can’t help but think they’ve discovered the cure for the common handbag addiction.

We grabbed a few moments with Claudia and Betsy, below.

Who are your go-to designers?

Claudia Overstrom: It really depends on what I'm doing, but I regularly turn to Lela Rose, Oscar de la Renta and Lanvin.  I also love Theory pants for every day (they look good on everyone) and am crazy about Alaïa!

Betsy Pitts: Lela Rose,  Oscar de la Renta, Narciso Rodriguez and Roland Mouret for classics, and Rick Owens and Balmain for edge. I also love fun tops from the hip new designer behind Generation Love.

What’s the most treasured item in your closet?

C.O.My most treasured items are the ones handed down from my mother.  I think of all the fun she had wearing them and always marvel at how perfectly preserved she kept everything!

B.P.: If my husband or children were in my closet then that would be an easy answer.  Otherwise, I'm not beholden to any one object. I really love shoes, particularly wedges. I have some black leather Balenciaga wedge booties that I've lived in all fall and winter.

Other than bags, what are your favorite accessories?

C.O.I love jewelry.  My Blair Husain pendant rarely leaves my neck and I'm a huge Mish and Taffin fan too.  For travel, Lanvin makes the most fabulous bijouterie.

B.P.: My husband gave me a beautiful ring from Mish Tworkowksi for Christmas. Mish has a gorgeous boutique on Bond Street and everything is incredible. I also adore my personalized Roman numeral gold bracelet and pendant necklace from Blair Husain. And I love costume jewelry by Ranjana Khan and Anndra Neen that you can find on the fabulous new jewelry web site Paire.us.

And your fashion icons?

C.O.Babe Paley, Katherine Hepburn, Bianca Jagger, Grace Kelly, and I'm inspired daily by my incredibly chic friends and the great style I see on the streets of NYC!

B.P.: Grace Kelly, Patti Hansen, and young Candace Bergen.
